The seven foot center from Scituate, Massachusetts, took home All-Showcase honors for the third straight year at ELITE PRO CAMP 2017 in the Boston, MA area. Camp director and Cpbnetwork President, Chris Pagentine, had the following to say about Andrew's progress over the years. "Andrew joined our program in 2015, following a few failed attempts to get his professional career started. He had attended other camps and exposure events in the past but had not been able to get the looks that he needed and deserved." Pagentine goes on to retrace the steps that started McCarthy's career following his first year at ELITE PRO CAMP. "Andrew caught the eye of a few scouts and coaches present at camp that year. He performed very well and with his size and athleticism, it was no wonder why he grabbed so much attention."

Hans Beth, was one of those coaches and scouts attending the camp. Hans now serves as an assistant director, lecturer, coach, and international scout for ELITE PRO CAMP. He is a longtime German professional basketball coach and director of Basketball Aid. At the time, Beth was representing teams from all across Central Europe including top leagues down to smaller regional leagues. "Hans and I worked together to get both Andrew and his brother Sean McCarthy, into the regional leagues of Germany." They performed well and were able to make a name for themselves in the international game. "Andrew had many breakout games with high rebounding numbers and point totals. He proved himself to be an asset for any higher level teams around the world," Pagentine stated.

After his season in Germany, McCarthy then attended ELITE PRO CAMP 2016 and again took home All-Showcase honors. Following his summer success, he signed a league contract with the NBA G League as a participant in the 2016 Draft. Andrew was drafted 16th in the 4th round by the Maine Red Claws. Scott Morrison, now assistant with the Boston Celtics of the NBA, was the head coach of Maine at the time and was very familiar with McCarthy's abilities. Morrison had recruited McCarthy to lay for him when he was the head coach at Lakehead University, a Canadian college in the OUA. The two reunited for training camp in the beginning of November of 2016, by the end of training camp, McCarthy was cut and released from the team. In December 2016, McCarthy was picked up by the Niagara River Lions of the NBL Canada and added to their training camp roster. McCarthy was later released and spent the rest of the season playing with a local Massachusetts semi-pro team.

Andrew would go on to impress more scouts and coaches at the camp this past summer. Immediately following the camp, he started receiving more attention from Germany but decided to accept another offer and signed a contract to play for CB Llica D'Amunt of the Spanish regional league. McCarthy is currently performing extremely well in Spain and is looking to move up and advance his career in the European professional leagues.
